Mar de Frades is a Galician term for “Sea of Friars”. It is located opposite the town Arousa at the mouth of the river Umia, is the name given to an area where pilgrims landed to continue their travels to Santiago de Compostela.

The location the producers settled on in 1987 to build a bodega was influenced by the Atlantic and born with the intention of producing wines that would represent its individuality and character. It was a tiny area in the ocean-facing the vineyards. The history of the winery and that of the D.O. Ras Baixas, which was founded the following year, have always been intertwined. The winemakers were pioneers in the region of the Val do Salnés, where Spain’s most subtle and elegant white wines are made, and where the legend of Albario is said to have originated.

The producers believe that discovering their wines is to experience the true spirit of the Atlantic. The goal is to transport the senses and saline aromas back to their original location. It’s to savour a wine that can make you sparkle, one that is bold and unexpected.

Mar de Frades Albarino is outstanding white, begging to be discovered. It has a vibrant and powerful nose, with gardenia flowers, pear and apricot, and tropical fruits like pineapple and lychee with subtle balsamic notes. It is refreshing on the palate with a consistent, lingering finish and bright and balanced acidity. This wine is authentically Atlantic in Albario form, that transports you to the Galician landscape.
